Jennings takes checkered Flag
at the SCOPE go cart night!!!!
April 17, 2003:
SCOPE held its annual Dromo-One go cart night on Thursday evening, April
17th and for the first time, it was a Grand Prix format and each racer was
completely on his or her own. Each of the 35 participants raced through
three separate heats before the semi final races were held. The
competition was fierce as several of the SCOPE contingencies were yellow
flagged and forced to spend valuable seconds in the famed SIN BIN. There
were several spinouts and a number of competitors scraped the wall as each
racer fought for valuable seconds on their lap times.
After two hours of racing, the night winded down to the Championship
Round with the cream of the crop battling it out to a 20 lap Final. It was
a tightly contested race as Jeff Cheng led the first half of the race with
Gordon Jennings and Ken Bowen following closely behind in his draft.
On lap 11, Cheng missed gears on a hairpin turn and Jennings squeaked
by and took the lead with Cheng dropping to the second position. After 20
laps, Jennings took the checkered flag and took the mandatory victory lap
as Cheng finished second with Bowen in the third position.
Exhaustion and perspiration showed on the racers faces and each
contestant talked of the rematch coming up in the fall.
Congratulations to all the racers!
