The First Run of the YEAR!!!!
The first SCOPE Catalina Run (March 1st) was another big success! We had
about 15 boats attend and I counted well over 50 people! The showing was
smaller than last year because the questionable weather forecasts earlier
in the week, but it turned out to be an incredible day on the water with
beautiful weather and great offshore water. Also, some members had left
earlier that morning to practice for the Catalina Ski Race from Long Beach
to Catalina and back. Those that threw chance to the wind were treated to
a great day of SoCal boating! It was also great to see the boats from the
SoCalHotBoats club had also made the trip.
We all dined
at the Blue Parrot on Crescent with a great view of Avalon Harbor. We also
had a great view of SCOPE BOD member Greg Rice's boat drifting around on
his mooring. Greg was responsible for putting this event together, and I
guess he wanted to provide the entertainment too. :) Thank you Greg!

The weather
was perfect, a mixture of rough and smooth seas with 15 miles visibility on the way over.
The two groups met offshore from the Huntington Beach power station, one
group from Newport and the other from Huntington Harbor.
Many new people showed for the brunch. After the lunch feast many of the group paid a visit to
BIG OLAF'S for the traditional dessert started by Stan Leder some 8 years
ago. They ate the ice cream while commenting on Greg's tie-up job on his
mooring. The day on Catalina also included a few shoppers and a few libations in Luau
Larry's, plus a few boats went around the backside of the island for some
more big water fun!
I'll see you all at the next Activity! The SCOPE
Kickoff Party at Teague Custom Marine!

p.s. One thing to remember, don't leave your camera on the bar at
Luau Larry's when you visit the bathroom. Your camera will be filled with
six goofy shots of a couple of guys in the group! :) Pretty
funny Chris!
