Well boys....we gave it a good shot, but came up short.....Team Skiing
With the Devil came in 3rd place overall with Martie Wells skiing a
hell of a race.....our time was 55:25 for the 62 mile journey.....yes, he
skied the whole way!!! We just couldn't keep up with the two jackrabits in
front of us.....we were 3/4 of a mile out of first at the turn boat in
Avalon....experienced some
lumpy water and the two lead boats never looked back.
Australian Steven Robertson had about a 15 second lead
over Todd Haigh, last year's champion, but with about seven miles to go,
Haigh, behind a 42 Fountain passed Robertson and driver Le Roy Shneider in
his 39 foot Thoroughbred....Haigh held onto the lead and won by approx.
200 feet at the finish line....an exciting finish....Haigh took just over
53 minutes to complete the 62 mile course.
Fellow S.C.O.P.E. Board member Turbosonic-1 (Lu Lyall)
took 2nd place in Veteran Mens Division pulling John Beresford.....so, he
must of kept the leaky trim caps in place for an hour or so!!!!!
Water conditions were pretty smooth with the only holdup
being the early morning fog, which delayed the race for 3 and a half
hours.....it was another well organized event with 101 teams entered at
the start....! My goal next year is to finish first place overall with a
winning time of under 50 minutes!!!!
